There are lots of job positions at different departments at a supermarket. Some jobs are more suitable for entry-level employees and some others are for more experienced job applicants. Supermarket Job Descriptions
Cashier Publix: A cashier at Publix is located at the front end of the store, operating the cash register. The cashier is fully accountable for all cash transactions and the safety of the money in the cash register. Usually the cashier works simultaneously with the bagger. This is a relatively easy and repetitive job position that is suitable for applicants with little or no work experience.
Bagger Kroger: A bagger at Kroger is located next to the cashier. The primary duty of a bagger is to pack groceries that were purchased by customers into bags avoiding any damage. Additional duties are assisting customers, loading/returning shopping carts, retrieving items, and contributing to the maintenance of the supermarket areas. This can also be counted as a repetitive entry-level job position.
Stock Clerk Safeway: A stock clerk at Safeway stocks shelves and maintains the overall appearance of the supermarket. Unloading trucks and transporting merchandise by carrying multiple items at one time is part of this job, thus muscle strength would help stock clerks a great deal during their shift.
Bakery Clerk Hannaford: A bakery clerk at Hannaford is located at the bakery section of the supermarket. A bakery clerk takes customers’ orders for bakery items such as cakes, breads or any other baked goods. A baker may have to contribute to bake products by measuring ingredients, mixing dough and operating proper equipment.
Deli Clerk IGA: A deli clerk at IGA is located at the deli counter. Primary job duties of a deli clerk are processing food and assisting the customers by recommending foods, providing food samples and informing the customers about the prices. A deli clerk should keep the deli counter always clean and sanitized.
Meat Clerk Food Lion: A meat clerk at Food Lion processes meat by weighing, cutting and wrapping it. Meat clerks are always in communication with the customers as they take their orders and provide them what they want. A meat clerk should have sufficient knowledge to provide customers useful information in any aspect regarding the meat sold at the supermarket.
Produce Clerk FoodMaxx: A produce clerk at FoodMaxx separates produce and places them on the sales floor, in the cooler or in the back room area. A produce clerk is also responsible for the inventory. Processing shipment and providing assistance to shoppers are additional important duties of a produce clerk.
Floral Clerk Wegmans: A floral clerk at Wegmans works at the floral section of the supermarket. A floral clerk fills and cleans racks, displays, and shelves. Assuring plant maintenance by watering, trimming and rotating plants when necessary by the floral clerk is essential for the success of a floral section in a supermarket.
Grocery Specialist (Pharmacy, Floral, Seafood etc.) Walmart: A grocery specialist at Walmart is responsible for multiple different sections of the supermarket. Checking the integrity of aspects such as inventory, merchandising, or labor is the essential duty of a grocery specialist. Instead of being an entry-level one, this job position often requires some supermarket experience.
Customer Service Representative Target: A customer service representative at Target provides great support to the customers by informing them fully about their questions and responding to their complaints. It is better for a customer service representative having a calm nature and great communication skills since the job requires to engage with dozens of customer issues every day.
