When the founder David Lando realized that the top-selling commodity in his shop was by far the sportive sneakers, he decided to focus on shoes in 1971. He became the first athlete footwear specialist shop of its sort in the US, opening that year along with his partner, Michael Lando, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Shortly later, The Athlete’s Foot locations in the United States started to grow in numbers. There are almost 500 The Athlete’s Foot locations in the United States, Australia, and European, Middle Eastern and Latin American countries.
