Sales Associate

You can work as a sales associate at Spencer’s and start your career in a reputable company. Your main goal will be to provide excellent customer service to the guests of the store and contribute to the overall sales. For this reason, you will have to inform the customers of recent products, promotions, and deals.

Being friendly and self-motivated is highly important to be successful in this position. Moreover, you also need to follow the latest lines of the company to promote the new products, which customers may want to purchase. Additionally, you will help customers to find what they are looking for by escorting them to the store.


The stuff sold at Spencer’s is pretty much the same as the stuff sold at its rival Hot Topic. Spencer’s is the primary destination for entertainment, excitement, and fun for over 65 years. Spencer’s is targeting teenagers and young adults aged between 18-24, trying to inspire them with colorful and fun products. Life is a party and Spencer’s is here to turn it into fun! If you have a personality with high energy, you are good with technology, you are independent and humorous (basically, if you have a teen spirit), you are always welcome to work at a Spencer’s store. Spencer’s is known to be a tattoo-friendly workplace that welcomes job candidates with tattoos, piercings, etc.


The interview process at Spencer’s is pretty basic and simple. Make sure that you bring your resume with you and wear an appropriate outfit. Avoid wearing jeans or shorts to leave a good impression. You do not have to worry about the interview itself. They usually ask basic interview questions.

Employee Training

The initial training after you get hired lasts 4-5 shifts. There is an online portal where you answer questions about work, learn the company’s history, and learn useful stuff that will help you during work such as how to greet customers, information about piercings, jewelry, items in the adult section, etc.

Work Culture

You will be expected to always greet guests within the store. Each shift, you do the same exact things. A job at Spencer’s makes a really good first job because it is pretty simple, nothing is pretty hard. A typical Spencer’s store is really small in size, and since the job is repetitive, you can feel stuck in the register especially if you are a cashier.

Another rarely mentioned but commonly occurring aspect of working at Spencer’s is that little kids come into the store just to look at inappropriate stuff sold at the store every day. Dealing with such immature people might be annoying for some store associates. Also, many Spencer’s employees have reported that the store environment is unprofessional in a neutral way, especially the managers.

Wages & Employee Discounts

The minimum wage at Spencer’s is slightly above $8 an hour, and there is a 30% employee discount on all items at the store for Spencer’s employees. Also, every month for a single weekend around payday, there is a 40% employee discount where employees can buy things they want at a really good price.
